At Base Power Company, we believe that the energy transition is inevitable - and that batteries + software are the key unlock to this transition. Our grid is not fit to handle today's levels of power demand, which can cause incredibly expensive and sometimes fatal problems. When EV penetration goes from~ 7% to 70%+, and other parts of the economy are electrified - these problems will intensify. We are building a company that solves power scalability and enables our renewable electric future by deploying significant amounts of connected and intelligent battery storage capacity across the grid.

Base Power Company is seeking a world class leader to join our early team as a Sr. Hardware Engineer. As an early employee, you will play a crucial role in shaping and leading the entire product technical strategy, engineering team, and all engineering operations; inclusive of design, analysis, testing, and transition to production. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the future of energy storage solutions, and in turn, human potential.

What You’ll Do

  • Design

    • Develop architecture for the entire electrical system, voltage selection, and component selection. Drive all hardware engineering activities from day 1.

    • Derive requirements, benchmark competitors, and develop the early technical vision for the entire hardware stack; inclusive of all power electronics, battery, and remainder of installed system

    • Drive detail-level mechanical and electrical design with an eye for cost & manufacturability

  • Analysis

    • Lead efforts to analyze design choices, including material selection, mechanical componentry, electrical componentry, etc.

    • Lead a “design reliability” function to incorporate quality and reliability into system design up front. Develop & execute tests to prove reliability.

  • Testing

    • Lead and complete all required regulatory testing

    • Create the testing regime used for all hardware products, tying back into the product development process to validate adherence to all requirements

Qualifications

  • Required

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field; preferably Electrical Engineering

    • Demonstrated ability to create a hardware product from start (deriving requirements) to finish (sustainment)

    • History building a team, driving results and fostering a culture of excellence.

    • A distinct ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

    • Experience with power electronics of some kind

  • Preferred

    • Experience designing lithium-based chemistry battery packs

    • Strong analytical background
