Pairing your solar panels with a Base battery can unlock more savings and extend your backup power during outages.

The Base battery integrates seamlessly with most solar setups—no rewiring or warranty impact—and lets you earn credits for every extra kilowatt-hour, whether it charges your battery or goes back to the grid.

Even if you don’t have solar yet, you can start with a Base battery now and easily add solar later. Read on to learn how Base helps you get the most from your solar energy system.

How Base integrates with solar panels

Base batteries integrate with most solar panels to help extend backup duration for solar households. The Base battery will not affect your warranty and does not require any rewiring of your system.

During battery installation, we also leave your solar inverter and install the battery independent of it.

Your solar panels will charge the battery. You will earn solar credits for all of the energy your panels send out, whether to the battery or to the power grid.

Why solar households choose Base

  1. Power during outages: Your home stays powered even when the grid goes down.
  2. Extended outage protection: Your solar panels can continue recharging your battery during an outage, providing longer backup time.
  3. Competitive solar buyback: Base's buyback program gives you credit for all your extra solar energy. It doesn't matter if it charges the battery or goes back to the grid. You earn real-time wholesale rates plus an extra 3¢ per kWh.

If you don’t have solar yet but plan to install it later, you can still start with a Base battery now. When you’re ready, the Base team will integrate your solar panels by putting current transformers (CTs) on your battery.

To schedule this, please coordinate with our support team at support@basepowercompany.com.

Base's solar buyback program

Base credits you for all of your solar overproduction each month. You can see your solar data in the “solar credits” section of your monthly Base electricity bill.

On your bill, our buyback rate shows the real-time wholesale (RTW) price for solar. This is labeled as “solar credit - wholesale avg.” We also add an extra 3 cents per kWh, which is called “solar credit - Base bonus.”

Your solar credit amount is the rate multiplied by the kWh of your unused solar. Below the credits, we show your home’s solar usage (“Solar usage by home”). This lets you see your usage next to your overproduction.

If your bill is negative, Base will roll over your credits to the following month.

Why Base doesn't require solar

You don’t need solar to sign up with Base because our batteries are designed to store energy directly from the grid. This allows households to access reliable backup power and lower energy costs without relying on solar panels.

How Base compares to other solar batteries

Base's payback compared

Base's unique business model and technology offer homeowners a faster and more reliable payback period compared to traditional solar batteries.

Here's how:

  1. No high upfront costs: Unlike other solar battery systems, Base owns and operates our fleet of batteries. This means you don't have to pay for the expensive hardware. Instead, you pay just a one-time installation fee, which allows us to fairly compensate our electricians for putting the battery on your home. Afterwards, you get access to all the benefits of a backup battery without the pressure to recoup a massive investment.
  2. Fast payback periods: Because Base retains ownership of the battery, you’re not locked into a specific payback timeline. This flexibility allows you to enjoy savings and backup power without the stress of recouping a high upfront investment.
  3. Fast free maintenance for homeowners: With Base, all maintenance and replacements are included at no extra cost. While traditional battery systems often come with extended warranty, maintenance can take a long time to schedule. At Base, we provide immediate support. Our team will be at your house the next day to service the battery if necessary.
  4. Competitive solar buyback rates: You earn credits for any extra solar energy you produce. These credits are based on real-time wholesale rates. Additionally, you receive an extra 3¢ for each kilowatt-hour (kWh). Unlike the changing of low rates from some REPs, Base guarantees you get steady and fair pay for your extra production throughout your membership.
  5. Optimized battery usage: Base’s smart technology makes sure the battery is used well. It considers grid conditions and weather forecasts.
  6. Grid services offset costs: Base uses its batteries for grid-balancing services. We charge our batteries when energy demand is low and discharge them when demand is high. This revenue model lowers costs for homeowners. It helps Base keep low, fixed rates and offer reliable backup power at an affordable price.
  7. Durable, Texas-ready design: Base batteries are designed for long-term performance in extreme environments. This durability gives you steady savings and reliability. Other systems are more likely to need replacements because of wear and tear.

The Base battery lifespan compared

Base batteries last 10 to 15 years. During this time, Base Power covers all warranty claims, maintenance, and service for free.

As mentioned above, in addition to being optimized for residential use, Base batteries are specifically designed for the Texas environment. They feature added durability to withstand extreme temperatures, hail, and other environmental challenges.

If needed, we will also replace our batteries before they reach the end of their life at no cost to the homeowner. Our unique model of maintaining battery ownership prioritizes reliability and peace of mind for our members.

Our battery systems have capacities from 20 to 50 kWh. They come with an 11 kW inverter. This setup provides longer use and can support more home appliances than many other backup systems. Here is the link to our specs.

Conclusion: Simplify your energy savings

For members with solar panels, Base makes it simple to maximize your energy savings and keep your home powered during outages.

As a retail energy provider, Base offers competitive buyback rates and free, fast maintenance to your battery for its entire lifespan. These benefits make Base a highly cost-effective option for solar households.
