Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Matt and I live in Saginaw, Texas. I've been here for six years now. Having a house is both a pride thing for me and an investment. Ever since I bought it, I’ve always tried to put extra money into improvements. I think of it as something that will pay dividends later, whether I sell it, rent it, or pass it down.

I work as an HR technology consultant and do a lot of remote work, so having reliable power at home is important.

Do you remember the storm that pushed you to look for backup?

In 2020, we had those bad ice storms. We lost power for two days. We were huddled by the fireplace under blankets, trying to keep warm. I had never been so miserable in my life. I could barely sleep. It was hard because I don’t have family here, so we ended up at a friend’s house.

I remember thinking, never again. For me, it was about peace of mind. I wanted to sleep and relax without worrying about the house going dark. Kids are scared when it’s dark. And honestly, now that they’re older, it’s the Wi-Fi. No power means no PlayStation.

What solutions did you look at before Base?

At first I looked at Generac. They were so expensive, and the installation would’ve been another $20,000 just to run custom gas lines. I wasn’t going to spend $35,000 on that.

Then another company cold-called me. They offered solar and a backup battery, but it was a 25-year contract. If I wanted out, I’d owe $50,000. That was crazy.

That’s when I found Base online. I filled out the form, and what I loved was there was no hard sell. The first question was, “What questions do you have for me about Base?” I’d done a bunch of research, so I had a lot. Cooper answered every one of them.

I was skeptical at first. It sounded too good to be true. But I’d text him every few days with more questions, and he always had the answer. After a month of that, I finally felt comfortable moving forward.

What was the installation like?

Seamless. They came in, did the job in a day. The installers were great. Watching them unload that big pallet of equipment, I thought, wow, that’s all mine.

How has it worked since?

My bills used to be super high. Last summer I paid about $700 in one month. With Base, I haven’t had a bill over $300.

A month and a half ago, Encore texted me saying the power would be out for several hours of maintenance. I didn’t even notice. Base had already kicked in. My neighbors were out, and I was still working without interruption.

Since February, I’ve had three outages. Every time, Base has been there. No issues.

What would you tell someone who’s unsure?

The customer service has been top notch. I tell my wife, Base is like the Chick-fil-A of electric companies. Everywhere else you deal with, there are issues. With Base, it’s been awesome.

For me, it’s about comfort and security. Power is a basic necessity. With Base, I don’t have to worry anymore.
