General

Base offers a significantly less expensive backup battery solution compared to alternatives due to the unique shared business model: Base earns income from the power grid instead of homeowners.

This business model allows you to get energy backup without paying tens of thousands of dollars for a traditional generator. An expensive solar system and solar battery also requires a massive upfront investment which often can take longer than the lifespan of the system to pay back. With Base, you pay just a one-time installation cost that pays the team of electricians to install the battery on your home.

Base offers fair, fixed rates and reliable backup power. Since revenue comes from the grid, not customers, Base avoids hidden fees and surprise rate hikes. Your contract also legally guarantees your rates stay below the market average.

To get started with Base, you pay a $50 refundable deposit to secure your spot and kick off the permitting process. If you decide to not move forward prior to permitting, Base refunds the deposit.

Once your battery is installed, this deposit goes toward your one-time installation cost, which typically is $3,000 depending on your zip code and battery size.

Base also offers payment plans to make installation as affordable as possible. Base does not want cost to be a barrier to people who need energy backup.

After installation, you pay monthly utility bills just like you would with any energy provider. The difference is that Base guarantees your rates will be below the market average.

If you have solar, Base will also buy back any excess energy you produce at real-time wholesale rates + 3¢/kWh. To see how much you can save, send Base your latest energy bill at team@basepowercompany.com, and a Base energy advisor will provide a personalized cost comparison.

Base operates today in select deregulated regions of Texas. A deregulated region means you can choose your energy provider.

Base currently operates in the north of Austin area and DFW Metroplex (excluding Dallas City). We're expanding quickly to both regulated and deregulated regions and can join our waitlist here.

No. The State of Texas passed Property Code §202.010 allowing for those in HOAs to install “Solar Energy Devices” (as defined in Tax Code §171.107), which include batteries like Base.

As such, you are entitled to the right to have the Base system installed.

Yes! Base has a great referral program. Base members are essential for spreading the word about Base and getting more neighborhoods involved.

Existing members can send friends, family, neighbors, or strangers their personal referral link, which you can access in your Base account.

Refer a friend and you both will receive a free month of power when their battery is installed.

Base operates differently from traditional power companies. Instead of profiting directly from customers, Base earns revenue by using grid-balancing software paired with outage prediction technology. This approach optimizes the Base battery for both grid stability and outage protection.

When the grid is functioning, Base uses its batteries to support grid balancing. This strengthens the grid’s resilience and generates income for Base.

This model eliminates the incentive to raise member rates, avoiding hidden fees and unexpected rate hikes common with other providers. By leveraging its network of batteries for grid balancing, Base maintains low rates for members while remaining profitable.

The timeline as to when Base is available in each city is dependent upon the requirements and permitting of each city authority.

The best way to check if you currently serve your area is to check your address below.

If Base is not in your area yet, you can still put down a $50 refundable preorder. This will reserve your spot on the waitlist so that when Base becomes eligible in your area, you’ll get notified and be one of the first in line.

The Base team is actively working to expand to other areas of Texas, by complying with the different regulations and permitting requirements.

You can review our Electricity Facts Labels (EFLs) here

In deregulated markets—where you can choose your energy provider—power companies are required to provide an EFL. This document includes all the key details about a plan. EFLs are designed to help you make an informed decision when selecting your electricity provider.

Base Power Company is the only retail energy provider (REP) that provides a backup battery to members for outage protection.

We are also one of the only power companies that makes money off the grid, not homeowners. Because of this, Base is able to legally commit that rates stay below the market average—a guarantee included in your contract when you join Base. While you still pay for your power usage, you enjoy a lower fixed rate of $0.085/Kwh (plus other distribution fees) compared to other power companies.

Base prioritizes transparency in member pricing, and consistently evaluates rates to stay competitive and price members fairly. Whether you have questions about your bill, choosing the right plan, or want guidance on your device, the Base team is committed to handling concerns in a timely and personalized manner.

By owning the batteries, Base can operate the battery software to stabilize energy distribution and earn income off energy price fluctuations—setting Base apart from other solutions.

Here’s what this means for you:

  • No Maintenance Costs: Base handles all service and repairs at no cost, replacing the battery if needed throughout its lifespan.
  • Lower Rates: By leveraging grid-balancing software, Base keeps homeowner rates below market averages while stabilizing the grid.

Base’s business model prioritizes members over short-term profits, ensuring you benefit from fair rates and reliable service.

And during outages, you have exclusive access to your stored energy, protected by law—meaning Base can’t legally discharge it to the grid during these times.
