Base Agreements
Do I enter into any contracts or agreements with Base? What happens if I move or cancel?
There are two separate Base agreements: the battery agreement and the retail energy provider agreement.
Here’s what it means to sign up with Base:
- Base will become your energy provider for the life of the battery and will renew your energy rates at a price below the market average.
- Base can access the battery when necessary and handles maintenance and warranty issues. All applicable warranties from the installer and manufacturer are transferred to you.
- If you move, you can transfer the agreement to the next homeowner at no cost to you or them.
- Since Base is in beta, backup energy should not be used for life-critical devices and cannot be guaranteed.
- You will incur fees if the battery is stolen or damaged.
- If you ever want to cancel with Base, you only have to pay a $250 deinstallation fee. You don’t have to pay for deinstallation if you move after 5 years, transfer the agreement to the next homeowner, or if the renewal price exceeds the market average.
Who owns and operates the battery?
Does Base have any guarantees?
As Base is in beta, backup energy should not be used for life-critical devices and cannot be guaranteed. Base’s algorithms are designed to maintain a critical amount of capacity, but Base cannot guarantee they will function in the worst-case scenario. Therefore, medical equipment should not rely solely on Base for backup. As we continue to develop Base’s prediction software and battery network, backup duration and performance will improve over time.
What does the 20% minimum state of charge mean in the contract?
- When the grid is up and running, Base charges and discharges the battery for energy trading, allowing you to enjoy a low upfront cost and monthly energy savings.
- On average, the Base battery has a 93% state of charge.
- Base will not discharge the battery below 20%, ensuring you have enough capacity to cover most outages.
- When the grid goes down, you have exclusive access to the battery for backup power. Base will not and cannot discharge energy to the grid during an outage.
- Base’s beta outage prediction technology protects members from 97% of outages. As Base improves its prediction software and the battery network, backup duration and performance will improve over time.
