Base will notify you via text and through the Base App. We’ll also provide tips on how to extend your battery life, such as turning off your A/C, electric furnace, and other non-essential appliances.

Base's innovative model allows homeowners to get all the benefits of backup without the high cost for the hardware.

When you switch to Base, you get a home battery for just the cost of installation, which is a fraction of the cost of other backup batteries or generators. We're able to do this because Base's solution allows us to get paid by the grid, rather than by homeowners. When the grid is up and running, the battery discharges energy when it is needed most. This allows the battery to pay for itself over time without the member having to think about it. Savings are passed on to Base members via the battery, low monthly energy bills, and zero service and maintenance costs.

When the grid goes down, the Base member gets exclusive access to the stored energy to protect their home from power outages. On average, the Base battery maintains a 93% state of charge. Base’s outage prediction technology fully protects customers from the vast majority of outages.

Yes, the switch to Base and the cancellation of your previous provider will happen automatically after you enroll in Base.

Base will cover up to $250 of your early cancellation fees.

The steps for reimbursement are as follows:

  1. Pay the early termination fee.
  2. Send us proof of payment to support@basepowercompany.com within 30 days of payment.
  3. Base will reimburse you on your next bill or within 30 days.

Base has two key pricing components:

Upfront Fee: The Base battery is a 20-50 kWh backup system, one of the largest home systems on the market. Comparable backup systems, including installation, cost approximately $10K-30K. With Base, homeowners only pay a one-time installation fee. Base installation fee is typically $3K, but is dependent on zip code and battery size. Base offers 0% interest payment plans.

Monthly Energy Bills: As your energy provider, Base guarantees that its rates will always be below the market average consumption rates. Base’s rates energy charges are dependent on your address. If you have solar, Base offers competitive buyback for all of your overproduction (regardless of whether the solar energy goes into the battery or to the grid) at a rate of real-time wholesale plus 3 ¢/kWh. Send us a copy of your latest energy bill at team@basepowercompany.com, and Base will provide a cost comparison. See Base's latest plans and Electricity Facts Labels (EFLs) here.

You will pay monthly for Base and will be notified via email. All members are automatically enrolled in autopay and paperless billing.

Energy Bill: Your first energy bill may take up to 40 days after starting service. The bill date depends on when we receive your first meter reading from the utility. After your first bill, you’ll be billed via email approximately every 30 days, and your auto-payments will process 17 days after each bill is sent to you.

Battery Payment: After your installation is complete, you will automatically be charged for the remainder of your upfront battery payment and, if you have a battery payment plan, your first installation. Subsequent payments will occur on the same calendar date each month. You will receive a confirmation email from Stripe (our payment processor) each time you are charged.

Base operates in select deregulated regions of Texas where you can choose your energy provider, including areas served by the following Transmission and Distribution Utilities (TDUs): Oncor, CenterPoint, TNMP, AEP, and Lubbock Power and Light.

Enter your address to check your home’s eligibility and the timeline for installation.

The best place to find your energy billing and payment information is your Base Dashboard. Each time you are billed for monthly usage, we email your bill with the subject line “Base Power Bill”. Each time you are charged, we send a confirmation email with the subject line “Base Power Bill Payment Confirmation”.

Battery payment billing information is coming to the Base Dashboard soon.

No. Base is not solar and does not require solar. Base does work with homes that already have solar and you can always add solar after installing Base.

For energy bill payments, you can change your payment method on your Base Dashboard. On the Billing page, click on the pencil icon next to ‘Energy Billing Details.’

Battery payments are processed separately. To change the payment method for your battery payment plan, email us at support@basepowercompany.com and we can help you make the update.

Yes, Base serves members with and without solar. Base’s batteries are easy to integrate with solar panels, and the integration does not affect your warranty or require any rewiring of your solar system.

Reasons why solar households choose Base:

  • Your home remains powered during an outage.
  • Outage protection is extended because your solar panels can continue recharging your battery.
  • Base offers a competitive buyback program. You get credit for all of your solar overproduction (whether it goes into the battery or back to the grid) at a rate of real-time wholesale plus 3¢/kWh.

You can install a Base battery now and easily install solar panels later on as well.

Not at this time, however we plan to make this more flexible soon.

Currently, your energy billing date is determined by your meter reading date and your battery payment date is determined by your installation date.

There are two separate Base agreements: the battery agreement and the retail energy provider agreement.

Here’s what it means to sign up with Base:

  1. Base will become your energy provider for the life of the battery and will renew your energy rates at a price below the market average.
  2. Base can access the battery when necessary and handles maintenance and warranty issues. All applicable warranties from the installer and manufacturer are transferred to you.
  3. If you move, you can transfer the agreement to the next homeowner at no cost to you or them.
  4. Since Base is in beta, backup energy should not be used for life-critical devices and cannot be guaranteed.
  5. You will incur fees if the battery is stolen or damaged.
  6. If you ever want to cancel with Base, you only have to pay a $250 deinstallation fee. You don’t have to pay for deinstallation if you move after 5 years, transfer the agreement to the next homeowner, or if the renewal price exceeds the market average.

This means we were unable to charge the payment method on file due to an issue with your payment method. Examples include card expiration or insufficient funds. To resolve the issue, please add a new payment method on your Base Dashboard or contact your payment issuer to fix the existing payment method.

On the Base web app, you can:

  • Check battery and grid status. Base will notify you of an outage via text and through your member portal.
  • See live power usage. Base is the only energy provider that shows instantaneous power with battery telemetry.
  • Manage payments. You can update your payment method and view your bills.
  • Access your personal referral link. For each member you refer who installs a Base battery, both you and the referred member will receive a $250 Amazon gift card.

You can log in to your portal using the following link once you’ve set up an account during enrollment: https://account.basepowercompany.com/sign-in

Base credits you for all of your solar overproduction each month. You can see your solar data on your monthly bill in the “Solar Credits” section.

On your bill, our buyback rate is the real-time wholesale (RTW) price for solar (“Solar Credit - Wholesale Avg”) plus an additional 3 cents per kWh (“Solar Credit - Base Bonus”). Your Solar Credit amount is the rate multiplied by your kWh of unused solar. Underneath the credits, we also list your home’s solar usage (“Solar usage by home”) so you can see your usage alongside your overproduction.

If your bill is negative, Base rolls over your credits to the following month.

The State of Texas passed Property Code §202.010 allowing for those in HOAs to install “Solar Energy Devices” (as defined in Tax Code §171.107), which include batteries like Base. As such, you are entitled to the right to have the Base system installed.

If you'd like to request an information packed for your HOA, please email us at team@basepowercompany.com

Base is your Retail Electric Provider (REP), but your energy comes from a Transmission & Distribution Utility (TDU) such as Oncor. Your utility delivery charges are service fees from the TDU, which we pass on to you with no additional markup. Your average price includes our rate plus the utility delivery charges.

Existing members can send friends, neighbors, or strangers their custom referral link or send them to the Base website and have them tell Base who referred them. The Base referral program grants you and each person you refer to Base a $300 Amazon gift card.

No, you only pay for what you use. Base excludes battery charging costs from your bill via the “Battery Credit”, which measures the amount of energy used to charge the battery and the amount of energy used to power your home. Base credits you for the cost of the energy used to charge the battery (Battery Credit Energy Charges), as well as the Oncor transmission and delivery fees associated with the energy used to charge (Battery Credit Utility Charges).

Generation meter reading: Energy you sent back to the grid. This includes your battery discharging back to the grid, plus any solar overproduction if applicable. We calculate this by subtracting your previous meter read from your current meter read.

Consumption meter reading: Energy you took from the grid. This includes energy you used to power your home, plus energy Base used (and Base paid for) to charge your battery. We calculate this by subtracting your previous meter read from your current meter read.

Base owns and operates the battery and is responsible for all maintenance and service. You agree not to move, tamper with, or enroll the battery in any external programs. Base’s software optimizes the battery’s energy to help you withstand outages and save money each month.

Paid – This bill was paid successfully.

No payment due — This bill had a negative or <$0.50 balance, therefore no payment is due. If your bill is negative, Base rolls over your credits to the following month.

Scheduled — The bill is due in the future.

Payment failed  – We had an issue attempting to charge the card on file; please add a valid payment method on your Base Dashboard.

Carried forward – We were unable to charge the payment method on file and you did not add a valid payment method before your next bill, so this bill got added to the next bill.

As Base is in beta, backup energy should not be used for life-critical devices and cannot be guaranteed. Base’s algorithms are designed to maintain a critical amount of capacity, but Base cannot guarantee they will function in the worst-case scenario. Therefore, medical equipment should not rely solely on Base for backup. As we continue to develop Base’s prediction software and battery network, backup duration and performance will improve over time.

  • When the grid is up and running, Base charges and discharges the battery for energy trading, allowing you to enjoy a low upfront cost and monthly energy savings.
  • On average, the Base battery has a 93% state of charge.
  • Base will not discharge the battery below 20%, ensuring you have enough capacity to cover most outages.
  • When the grid goes down, you have exclusive access to the battery for backup power. Base will not and cannot discharge energy to the grid during an outage.
  • Base’s beta outage prediction technology protects members from 97% of outages. As Base improves its prediction software and the battery network, backup duration and performance will improve over time.

Base covers 100% of the maintenance for the battery in cases of manufacturing or installation defects, as well as damages outside of your control (e.g., weather events). However, if the damage is due to negligence or intentional acts, you will be responsible for the costs.

Base offers a 20-50 kWh battery/batteries and an 11 kW inverter, making it one of the largest home backup systems on the market. Base’s batteries have a longer duration and can back up more appliances in your home than almost any other home backup solution.

Base batteries are designed to last up to 15 years and withstand extreme temperatures. Base owns the battery and will manage the warranty and any necessary maintenance on the system.

Here are links to the specs: Battery, Hub, Inverter.

The battery is placed outside your house. We have 3 battery configurations:

  1. Wall-mounted battery (20 kWh): 58.5" tall x 27.17" wide.
  2. Ground-mounted battery (25 kWh): (1) 4' tall cube with a 3'x3' base.
  3. Two ground mounted batteries (50 kWh): (2) 4' tall cubes with 3'x3' bases, 3' apart from each other.

The installation will be an all-day effort, starting as early as 8 a.m. and ending as late as 6 p.m.

The logistics team will drop off a pallet of materials first, and then the installation crew will begin work between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. There will be a 1- to 2-hour window when power will be disconnected to configure backup functionality.

If your main panel is in your garage, you will need to be home during the installation.

Base’s logistics team will return later in the day or the next morning to pick up any remaining equipment and boxes.

After the installation, please login to your Base Dashboard and input your Wi-Fi network name and password (the battery requires a permanent connection).

Simply put, in a longer outage, if you reduce your usage to the fridge/freezer, lights, and a few hours of A/C per day, you’ll get around one day of backup with a single battery and up to 3+ days of backup with two batteries. If you stick to average power usage, it’ll be closer to ~12 hours with a single battery and ~24 hours with two. If you don’t reduce A/C, electric heaters, or any other power-hungry appliances, it could only provide a few hours of backup. Generation sources like solar or generators only help to extend the duration.

The backup duration of Base batteries depends on four main factors:

How much power you use: Higher usage shortens backup time, while reducing power usage extends it. This is the most impactful factor.
Battery charge when the outage starts: The backup duration is directly tied to how charged the batteries are.
How many batteries you have: This determines your total available energy. Most customers will get one battery (20-25 kWh), though some may qualify for two batteries (50 kWh).
Generation sources: Base batteries can integrate with solar panels and/or generators, increasing the duration in an outage.

Consider the following power usage scenarios:

Low usage (500 W): In more critical, longer-duration outages, most homes can reduce usage to ~300 W by running just the fridge and a few lights. For example, average power usage over 24 hours, with a baseline of fridge & freezer (150 W), lights (30 W), plus a few hours of A/C use (2 * 1500 W / 24 = ~125 W in a day), totals around 300 W of average usage.

Average usage (1.5 kW): The average Texas home uses ~1100 kWh per month. This equates to some A/C to maintain tolerable temperatures, along with typical lights, fridge, pool pump, washer/dryer, and other appliance usage.

High usage (8 kW): By running 1-2 A/C units on a hot July day or an electric heater on a cold winter day, you can pull 8+ kW continuously. This type of usage will quickly drain the battery. While most outages last only a few hours, and few occur during summer, it’s important to understand that batteries aren’t built large enough to sustainably run these types of loads.

The battery should automatically kick in within a half-second of an outage. No action is required from you!

Base offers whole-home backup, covering all the appliances on your main panel, including your A/C. The more energy you consume during an outage, however, the shorter the backup will last.

Some members with high energy consumption levels may require a soft-start installation on their A/C. Base will let you know if you need a soft-start, and Base’s HVAC partner will reach out to schedule this part of your installation. There are no additional charges for this service.

Soft-starts are necessary to ensure that the whole home is backed up during an outage by reducing the initial power surge, preventing the battery from overloading.

  • Base's hardware is UL certified, the “gold standard” of electrical systems safety for all home appliances, and is also fire safety rated.
  • Base contracts certified, bonded, insured, and licensed electricians. They work under Base’s master electrician, who operates with license #476697.
  • Base also has comprehensive general liability insurance to address any unforeseen incidents. In the unlikely event of a problem, we're prepared to work with you to handle it responsibly. Additionally, Base is in charge of warranty and maintenance.

Base offers a no-noise, no-pollution, and no-hassle complement to generators. Base automatically switches on when the grid fails, providing free outage protection for short disruptions in the grid.

Base can integrate with plug-in portable generator configurations. All you need is an interlock on your main panel. However, Base cannot integrate with more permanent generators like Generac.
